Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 20, 2026
1. Introduction
iDogNames ("we", "us", "our") operates the website idognames.com, a free directory of dog names, and also publishes the Dog Names Expert and FurCare Suite iOS apps. This Privacy Policy covers the website and the mobile apps in one document, with clearly marked sections so you can find the part that applies to you.
By using iDogNames' website or mobile apps, you agree to the practices described below.
Part A — Website (idognames.com)
This section applies to everything you do in a web browser on idognames.com.
2. Information We Collect (Website)
We try to keep the amount of data we collect to a minimum. The information we may process when you visit idognames.com includes:
- Usage data — pages you visit, names you click, time spent on the site, and the referring URL. Collected in aggregate to help us understand which names and categories are popular.
- Device and technical data — browser type, operating system, screen size, approximate location from your IP (typically country level), and language preference.
- Search queries — the keywords you type into our search box, stored in aggregate to surface trending searches and improve results.
- Community submissions — if you post a question in the Community section, we store the name, email, dog details, and images you choose to submit.
- Naming-project data — candidate names, notes, optional dog profile details and photo, final-name story, and votes submitted through a private shortlist link. The project is synchronized using random owner and public tokens so it can persist without an account.
- Optional recovery email — if you choose cross-device recovery or vote notifications, we store the email address you provide. It is not displayed publicly.
- Cookies and local storage — small files stored by your browser that remember preferences, maintain anonymous project and voter tokens, keep a local copy of your shortlist, and support advertising described in section 4.
We do not ask you to create an account for general browsing. We collect an email address only when you submit it for community participation, project recovery, notifications, or direct contact; we do not collect phone numbers or payment information for website use. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
3. How We Use Website Information
- Deliver name pages, tips, and browsing tools reliably.
- Understand which breeds, origins, and categories are popular.
- Power the search, generator, and community features.
- Synchronize a naming project, count votes, restore owner access, and show a completed naming story.
- Display relevant advertising from approved partners.
- Prevent abuse, spam, and automated scraping.
- Comply with our legal obligations.
We never sell personal information. Anonymous interaction events are used to improve product flows and aggregate performance, not to create an advertising identity tied to your name.
4. Third-Party Services on the Website
- Google AdSense — displays advertising on idognames.com. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at google.com/settings/ads or aboutads.info.
- Google Analytics — helps us understand aggregated traffic patterns. IP addresses are anonymized where supported.
- Google Fonts — we load typefaces from Google's font CDN. Requests to the CDN include standard browser information.
5. Cookies (Website)
Cookies are used on idognames.com to remember preferences, maintain anonymous naming-project and voting access, and serve advertising. Public voting links do not expose the owner's email or private notes. For abuse prevention, vote and submission activity may be associated with a one-way, periodically rotated IP hash rather than a publicly visible IP address. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies through their settings. If you disable cookies, naming projects, voting, and personalized ads may not work as expected.
Part B — Mobile Apps
This section applies to our iOS apps, available on the Apple App Store.
6. Dog Names Expert App
Dog Names Expert is an offline name-browsing app. It does not require an account, does not transmit personal data, and stores your saved names locally on your device. Standard App Store diagnostics and crash reports are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
7. FurCare Suite App
FurCare Suite stores your pet's health records (profiles, medical history, medications, feeding, activity, vaccinations) locally on your device. This data is not sent to our servers. If you enable Family Sharing inside the app, the shared data is exchanged through Apple's iCloud under Apple's terms. In-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple; we receive only aggregate sales reports — no payment details. See the full FurCare Suite privacy policy for details.
Part C — Both Website and Mobile Apps
8. Data Retention
Aggregated website analytics data is retained for up to 26 months. Search query logs are rotated periodically. Server logs are typically kept for no more than 90 days. Naming projects and completed naming stories are retained so private links and recovery continue to work, until you request deletion or the data is removed under a future inactivity policy. Community submissions are retained until you ask us to remove them; closed posts may remain as completed naming stories. Mobile app data stored on your device is retained until you uninstall the app or clear the app's data.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR (European Union) or the CCPA (California) to request access, correction, or deletion of personal data. Browser storage and cookies can be cleared through your browser settings. To request deletion of a naming project, recovery email, vote, community submission, or other personal data, contact us at [email protected] and include the relevant private project or community link.
10. Children's Privacy
iDogNames is designed to be family-friendly. Our mobile apps are rated 4+ (Everyone). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Parents and guardians who believe their child has provided personal information to iDogNames should contact us so we can remove it.
11. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited data we do collect, including HTTPS across the website and regular software updates. No method of internet transmission is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of iDogNames' website or mobile apps after changes become effective means you accept the revised policy.
13. Contact Us
