8 Dog Naming Mistakes You Should Avoid

Picking up the perfect dog name for your pup is always not easy, do not choose a dog name in a hurry, or you may make such dog naming mistakes.

1. Avoid choosing a dog name that you do not like.

It is your dog; you will live with it and will be using the dog name all the time, so you should enjoy the dog name. If possible you can choose a dog name that your friends like it, but the first important thing is that you like it.

2. Avoid choosing a dog name that sounds similar to a command.




Maybe you will train your dog after you name it, so do not choose a dog name that sounds similar to a command. The name must be clearly separated from commands and instructions. Never having your dog name sounds like "stand", "go", "sit", "stay", "come", as your dog will be confusing with the command and its name.

3. Avoid choosing a long dog name for your dog.

A long dog name is hard to pronounce and spell, also it is hard to remember. You should keep the dog name very short, crisp and sweet. A good idea is to use two or three syllables for the name and let the syllables end with a vowel sound. If you choose a long name for your dog it will also be a big embarrassment for both you and your dog in the public.

8. Avoid changing your dog name frequently once you name it.  

Experts announced that the most practical and compassionate way to treat a pre-owned dog is to leave their name alone. So if you have named your dog, do not change it frequently. Dogs that have lived with their names for a while may not be too accepting of a new name.
