Multi-Language Meaning Search
Search 11,000 dog names by their meaning across 60+ origin cultures. The same concept (brave) sounds completely different in Greek (Andreas), Japanese (Takeshi), and Celtic (Aiden) — find them all at once.
Why search by meaning?
- You know the vibe, not the name. "I want a name that means brave" is a common starting point.
- Cross-cultural inspiration. The same meaning yields different sounds across languages — gives you tons of options.
- Story value. A name with intentional meaning (e.g. Sora = Japanese for "sky") feels more personal than picking from a popularity list.
- Avoid overused names. Bella and Max are saturated. Names meaning the same things from less-common origins (Bonita, Maximus) hit different.

Frequently asked questions
How does the search work?
We scan the meaning text of every name in our 11,000-name database for your keyword (and common synonyms). Names with matching meanings are returned grouped by their cultural origin — Greek, Japanese, Hebrew, Celtic, etc.
Why search across multiple languages?
A concept like "brave" sounds totally different in different languages — Andreas (Greek for manly), Takeshi (Japanese for fierce warrior), Aiden (Celtic for fiery), Akira (Japanese for bright). Each gives a different vibe while sharing the same meaning. Multi-language search expands your options dramatically.
What if my keyword doesn't match any names?
Try synonyms. "Strong" might miss but "warrior" or "powerful" might hit. Try the opposite: "small" might miss but "tiny" or "little" works. Single common words work best.
Can I combine keywords?
Currently the tool searches one keyword at a time. For more complex queries, browse our meanings page which has pre-built collections by theme.
